Taipei Tokyo

Taipei Tokyo Website Redesign

Overview

The local Asian restaurant Taipei Tokyo serves a fusion of Chinese, Japanese, and Taiwanese dishes. I decided to revamp their website because the previous one gave off an impression of coldness, antiquity, and lack of personality. I aimed to improve the website's clarity, navigation, and usability for all users while making it visually rich and welcoming. The website should reflect the restaurant's comfort, culture, and community-driven nature.

1. The Challenge

The original Taipei Tokyo website did not reflect the quality or personality of the restaurant.

Minimal visuals made the site feel empty and uninviting

No strong brand identity or storytelling

Minimal visuals made the site feel empty and uninviting

The site did not appeal to younger audiences or first time visitors

The goal of this redesign was to create a website that feels warm, full, and easy to navigate.

I wanted the site to reflect the comfort of the restaurant, highlight its food, and guide users naturally toward key actions like viewing the menu, finding a location, or ordering online.

2. The Goal

3. Key Design Decisions

I focused on creating a visually rich experience without overwhelming the user.

Warm earth tones were used to evoke comfort and tradition, while bold food photography helped bring energy and appetite appeal to the layout. Rounded elements and soft spacing were chosen to keep the interface friendly and approachable.

Warm Color Palette

to create a welcoming and comfortable feel

Simplified Navigation

to guide users through each page without confusion

Large Food Imagery

to immediately communicate quality and appeal

Clear Visual Hierarchy

to help users find the menu, locations, and ordering options quickly

4. Why this Matters

The redesign was important because the original website did not communicate the restaurant’s personality or make it easy for users to find key information. Improving the design helped create a clearer, more engaging, and more trustworthy experience.

5. Final Outcome

The redesigned Taipei Tokyo website feels more inviting, structured, and reflective of the restaurant’s identity. The new design improves clarity, strengthens branding, and creates a more engaging experience for both new and returning customers.
